Citizen CA4157-17E Review

My Initial Thoughts On This Watch

Now this is a clean looking stylish watch. I love the almost all black feel of it using hints of white in the right places. Luckily this watch has luminescent hands, sometimes all black watches can really suffer if they don’t have this feature as they become pretty hard to read. Personally, I’m not sure I like the style of the strap but that’s just me.

Type of glass

For the CA4157-17E Citizen decided to go for a mineral glass. There are 3 main types of glass for watches which are acrylic, mineral and sapphire. Mineral is in the middle with regards to durability and hardness. At this price it’s what I would expect so I’m happy to see that that’s what we’ve got with it. Good value for money in my opinion.

Size

This watch is classed as extra large with a case diameter of 48mm, that’s pretty huge and going to be nicely noticeable on your wrist if that’s what you’re after. The thickness of the watch is 14mm which is at the high end of what is classed as large. It’s basically a nice large chunky watch. If you’re not a fan of big watches than I can tell you right now this wont be for you.

Calendar

This watch features a standard date calendar function. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a perpetual calendar but then I understand that would probably push the price up a bit. Only difference is with this watch you’ll likely have to reset the date at the beginning of each month.

Powered by sunlight

This is an awesome eco friendly money saving feature. The watch is powered via sunlight and will never require a battery change. Once fully charged these batteries can last anywhere between 45 days up to a total of 5 years with no recharge. Once they do begin to run low on battery the start to tick in two second intervals, this way you are made aware it’s low battery but the watch doesn’t loose any time.

Watch strap and clasp

The watch strap is 20mm wide which is surprising considering the size of the watch, I was expecting something wider although this is still average size for a male watch. The strap still remains comfortable and is made of PU. The CA4175-17E features a standard buckle clasp.

Conclusion

Time for me to finish off my CA4157-17E review, I think it’s a great looking watch and offers good value for money. At under £200 you’re getting a great selection of features like the eco-drive technology, chronograph, date and time keeping. And remember this is a huge watch, I’m certain it would get a lot of compliments as it’s pretty hard to miss. Reminds me of my oversized rose gold Hugo Boss watch. If you’re after an oversized watch than this is definitely worth considering.

While you’re here check out my top 21 under 200, it’s worth looking around and seeing what else you can get for your money too.
