My Initial Thoughts On This Watch
The G-Shock range by Casio were designed specifically to resist mechanical shock and vibration, they were primarily aimed at the sports and outdoors activities watch wearers. Most the range, this one included offer a form of dual time display, analogue and digital. This is simply another great addition to the ever popular range of watches from Casio.
You don’t get many watches that are this durable and affordable rolled into one very well designed time piece. They’ve been making G-Shock watches since back in 1983 when the concept was first considered. The resin strap and surround offer a high level of protection to the watch to protect it from all sorts of bangs and drops.
I rather like the design of this one in particular, using a blend of black and a deep blue for it’s primary colour scheme I think looks very cool. I’m also quite fond of the hollowed out design on the hands of the watch, it’s a nice detail that’s been added in.
It’s also packed full of features like the following, auto LED light, shock resistant, magnetic resistant, world time function, stopwatch function, 5 daily alarms, snooze feature, speed display, automatic calendar, 12/24 hour time keeping and a water resistance of 20 bar. Pretty decent you have to admit.
Type of glass
As I was expecting to see, this Casio G-Shock watch features a specially hardened mineral glass lens. Mineral glass is fairly tough and affordable, it’s common on watches in this price range and offers a good level of scratch protection. People may be wondering why they didn’t go for a sapphire crystal which is known to be more scratch resistant, well it turns out that the cheaper mineral glass offers a lot better shatter resistance. So when you have to choose between the two for this style of watch, then mineral glass appears to be the sensible choice.
Like most of the G-Shock range this watch is pretty huge. The casing diameter is 51mm which puts it well into the oversized category, the thickness of the case is just under 17mm, again fair chunky. It works very well to create this impressive hard wearing look and feel to it. It’s designed to be able to take a lot of hits and it looks the part too.
Another great feature on the this Casio is it’s date keeping, once set it will always show the correct day as it automatically adjusts for the varying amount of days in a month and for leap years. Pretty useful feature to have as let’s be honest, everyone hates adjusting the date, especially on digital watches.
Watch strap and clasp
The strap, like the surround of the watch, is also made of a strong resin material. This offers more durability and is in keeping with the overall design of the timepiece. They’ve gone for a fairly standard buckle clasp which is sensible enough and what you would expect to find on this style of watch.
Dial Window Material: Mineral Glass
Clasp Type: Buckle Clasp
Case Material: Stainless Steel, Resin Casing
Case Diameter: 51mm
Case Thickness: 17mm
Band Material: Resin
Calendar: Automatic Date Display
Movement: Precision Quartz Movement
This truly is perfect for those looking for a watch which can handle a harder day to day regime, with it’s shock resistance and resin casing you’ll struggle to find other watches in this price range that can handle as much. It’s also got tons of features which are very useful. All in all I think the G-Shock range as a whole offer fantastic value for money. Design wise this is actually one of my preferred ones as I like the deep blue detailing
