Bulova Precisionist Review – Are They Good?

An In Depth Bulova Precisionist Review

Hello everyone, today I’m putting together an extensive Bulova Precisionist review where I explain the benefits of this impressive quartz movement before finally featuring 15 of the best watches from the collection.

I’ve featured a Bulova watches review in the past where I took a look at the overall brand, to learn more about the history of Bulova watches I’d recommend reading that first.

What makes Bulova’s Precisionist collection so impressive?

  • Bulova’s Precisionist watches are powered by a unique movement that uses a three-prong crystal for unparalleled accuracy. The vibrational frequency of this movement is 262 kHz whereas a standard quartz watch has a frequency of 32 kHz.
  • This movement gives you Precisionist watches a continuous-sweep second hand which beats 16 times per second as opposed to indexing one per second that a standard watch would. A sweeping second hand if often a very sought after feature in watches.
  • The use of the Precisionist Infinity logo and counterweights on the second hands are quality symbols of superior accuracy in a watch.
  • Bulova’s Precisionist watches are built with the finest materials that include hypoallergenic 316L surgical grade stainless steel for cases and bracelets along with genuine leather for straps and carbon fibre for the dials.
  • Double screw back cases and screw down crowns are featured in many selection Precisionist watches
  • Intricate design and styling with complex architectural cases and multilayered dials give these watches a luxury finish.
  • Unlike many other high accuracy quartz watches, these Bulova Precisionist watches require no complicated maintenance.
  • Accurate to within +/- 10 seconds per year

Most people tend to go for Bulova’s chronograph Precisionist watches that feature a 4 eye chronograph that can provide timing to within 1/1000th of a second, that’s not a typo. Admittedly that sort of accuracy may not be necessary for many, but it does go to show the impressive capabilities of this precision watch.

All in all, if you’re looking for some of the best affordable accurate watches, then the Bulova Precisionist collection is worth considering.

15 Best Bulova Precisionist Watches

Below I’ve put together a list of 15 of the best Bulova Precisionist watches currently available. If you have any questions about any of the watches featured here simply comment at the end and I’ll try and provide an answer for you as soon as I can.

1. Bulova Precisionist Chronograph Men’s Watch

bulova precisionist 98G228Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

First up in today’s list of the best Bulova Precisionist watches is this impressive looking chronograph watch.

This is a men’s chunky watch that’s built with a two tone steel and PVD gold plating with a casing diameter of 44mm and a thickness of 18mm. The strap continues this two tone design and fastens with a fold over deployment style clasp including safety catch.

The dial of this Bulova Precisionist watch featured a textured black background with gold coloured detailings for the hands and chronograph sub-dials. Both the hands and hour markers come with a coating of lume for better visibility in dim lit conditions.

As you’re already aware, this Precisionist watch comes with a UHF 262 kHz movement for high accuracy and a sweeping second hand.

The Bulova 98G228 comes with a sapphire crystal glass for some of the best scratch protection available. This is a high-end glass that’s found in many expensive watches.

It also featured an impressive 300m water resistance rating which is sure to please a lot of people.

2. Bulova Precisionist Chronograph Moon Watch Special Edition

Bulova precisionist 96B251Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

Next up in our list of the top Bulova Precisionist watches is the special edition Bulova Moon Watch. This happens to be one of my favourite Precisionist watches.

The Bulova 96B251 was inspired by the Bulova chronograph watch worn during the Apollo 15 moon landing in 1971. This new moon watch has been authentically recreated and updated to include Bulova’s latest technology like the exclusive high performance quartz movement.

This Bulova Precisionist watch is made with a large 45mm stainless steel casing that has a thickness of 14mm. There are actually two straps supplied with this timepiece, both a leather and nylon strap that has proven to be popular.

The dial has a very sleek layout that I really like the style of. On the dial, there are 3 chronograph subdials as well as a small date function located between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour markers. Baton style hour markers have been used and are coated with lume, just like the hands for better visibility in dim lit conditions.

As with many Bulova Precisionist timepieces, this watch makes use of a high accuracy quartz movement with a vibration frequency of 262 kHz for unparalleled accuracy.

Yet again we have another Bulova Precisionist chronograph watch with a sapphire crystal glass gives you a high level of protection from scratches. This is a feature that I like to have in many of my watches.

It may not matter to that many people, but I personally feel the 50m water resistance rating on this model is a little bit of a let down to the timepiece.

 3. Bulova Precisionist Chronograph Watch

Bulova Precisionist chronograph watch 96G175Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

Here we have another oversized watch from Bulova’s Precisionist collection. If you like ‘big face watches‘ then this timepiece could be ideal for you.

The Bulova 96G175 Precisionist chronograph is made from stainless steel with a 48mm casing diameter that has a thickness of 14mm. The strap on this model is also made of stainless steel and fastens with a push release fold over clasp.

This complex work of art from Bulova features chronograph timekeeping with precise 1/1000th of a second measurement and a continuous second hand sweeping motion. Both the hands and baton style hour markers feature luminescent coatings for better visibility at night. You’ll find a small date function between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour markers which may be helpful.

Powering this Bulova watch is a unique three-prong precisionist movement for excellent accuracy. The quartz movement vibrates at 262 kHz which is eight times greater than a traditional quartz watch.

The Bulova 96G175 comes with a sapphire crystal glass for excellent scratch protection. This is the difference between the 96G175 and the 96B175, one has a sapphire glass and the other (the Bulova 96B175) has a mineral crystal glass.

I’m happy to see that this Bulova Precisionist chronograph watch comes with a 300m water resistance rating too.

4. Bulova Men’s Precisionist Quartz Watch

Bulova Precisionist review 96G131Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

This next timepiece moves away from Bulova’s normal Precionisist chronograph line with a simpler yet still impressive dial design. The Bulova 96G131 is made with a 46mm stainless steel casing that has a thickness of 15mm. The strap is also made from a strong stainless steel and fastens with a fold over push release clasp.

I love this black carbon fibre dial design with all the cool looking detailing that comes along with it. The hands and hour markers have a bit of a bold finish and come coated with lume for better visibility in dim lit conditions. There’s also an interesting looking date function found at the 3 o’clock position which displays one day before and after the actual date too.

Obviously, at the heart of this Bulova Precisionist watch is a high quality quartz movement for excellent accuracy and precision timekeeping. I love the combination of a sweeping second hand with the yellow finish that’s been added to the hand to make it stand out.

This quality Bulova watch makes use of a sapphire crystal glass for excellent scratch protection which is something I like to have in many of my smart occasion watches.

Just like the previous Bulova Precisionist watch, this model also makes use of a 300m water resistance rating which is always handy to have.

5. Bulova Precisionist Champlain UHF Chronograph Watch

Bulova 98B212 precisionist watch reviewCheck out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

In at number 5 we have this oversized Bulova watch that makes use of a large black ion-plated bezel that really makes this UHF Precisionist timepiece stand out.

The casing of this popular Bulova watch is made of stainless steel and has a diameter of 47mm with a thickness of 16mm making it a fairly chunky watch. The strap is made of stainless steel with a width of 24mm which goes with the larger style of the watch quite nicely. This strap fastens with a fold over push release clasp.

Again I’m a big fan of this multi-layered carbon fibre dial design with these white tipped hands and hour markers that stand out against the background. The red detailings for the second hand and sub-dials are a nice touch that brings a bit of a racing look to the watch.

This Bulova UHF watch makes use of an ultra high-frequency movement for excellent accuracy and chronograph timekeeping that can record to 1/1000th of a second. The Bulova Precisionist Champlain watch makes use of a frequency that is 8 times higher than a standard quartz watch.

The Bulova 98B212 makes use of a mineral crystal glass to give you a good level of both scratch and shatter resistance. Where mineral glass isn’t as good as sapphire glass in terms of scratch protection, it does beat it when it comes to shatter resistance.

This more affordable Bulova UHF Precisionist watch also comes with a 200m water resistance rating which should be adequate for most people really.

6. Bulova Designer Chronograph Watch With Precisionist Movement

Bulova precisionist review 96B258Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

This next Bulova Precisionist men’s watch is another timepiece from the special edition moonwatch collection. This is an alternative to the watch we featured in the second position and comes with a stainless steel strap instead of a leather or nylon one.

The casing of this Bulova Precisionist chronograph watch is made of stainless steel and has a diameter of 46mm with a thickness of 13mm. The stainless steel strap of the watch is approximately 20mm wide and fastens with a push release deployment style clasp.

The dial has the same design as the previous Bulova Moon watch and comes with these lume coated hands and baton style hour markers that stand out against the black background of the dial. There are 3 chronograph sub dials on display along with a date indicator at the 4.30 position on the dial.

Powering this Bulova watch is a 262 kHz quartz movement for some of the best accuracy available. This movement gives the watch a sweeping second hand function which is often desired in higher end watches.

A scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass protects the front of this timepiece from scuffs, knocks, and scratches with a Mohs hardness rating of 9 which is pretty hard to scratch.

7. Bulova Men’s Precisionist Chronograph 140th Anniversary Edition Watch

Bulova 96G241 Precisionist chronograph watch

Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

If you prefer more expensive Bulova watches then perhaps this 140th Anniversary edition timepiece is right for you. This special edition watch is a testament to Bulova’s history of constant and impressive innovation.

This beautiful Bulova watch is built with a 48mm stainless steel casing that has a thickness of 14mm. The strap itself is also made of stainless steel with this futuristic finish and fastens with a push button deployment clasp which happens to be one of my preferred straps.

The dial features this stunning carbon fibre finish and makes use of green and silver detailing as a nod to the original Accutron watches. We have the popular chronograph sub-dial design which can measure up to 1/1000th of a second. Like many Bulova Precisionist watches, this model also has a date indicator between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour positions.

At the heart of this cool Bulova Precisionist watch is a 262 kHz precisionist movement that’s famed for its accuracy.

On the front of the watch we have a sapphire crystal glass that gives you excellent protection from scratches and scuffs. This has a Mohs hardness rating of 9 and would effectively require a diamond to scratch it.

Last but not least is the 300m water resistance rating which is something found on many of the best Bulova Precisionist watches featured here.

8. Affordable Bulova Precisionist Watch

Bulova precisionist affordable watch 96B257Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

If you have more of a sensible budget then perhaps this affordable Bulova Precisionist watch would be perfect for you.

This sleek and professional looking dress watch is made from stainless steel with a casing diameter of 44mm and a thickness of 10mm. This has been paired up rather nicely with a genuine leather strap that fastens with a buckle style clasp.

The dial has this beautiful blue colouring that really makes this Bulova Precisionist watch stand out on your wrist. They’ve made use of small baton style silver coloured hour markers along with lume tipped hands for better visibility at night. There’s also a date display at the 3 o’clock position on the dial.

At the heart of this Bulova Precisionist timepiece is a unique three-prong crystal precisionist movement for excellent levels of accuracy. The 262 kHz vibration is 8 times greater than a standard quartz watch.

A mineral crystal glass is used to protect this timepiece from both scratches and shattering. Due to the more affordable nature of this Bulova Precisionist watch, I can’t say I’m surprised to see a mineral crystal instead of a sapphire glass as it is the cheaper option.

This men’s affordable Bulova watch has a 100m water resistance rating that should be acceptable to most people. It’s not really the style of watch I’d be planning on getting wet to be fair.

9. Bulova Men’s Affordable Precisionist Watch

Cheap Bulova Precisionist watch 96B252Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

This is another cheap Bulova Precisionist watch that’s worth considering, it doesn’t feature all the bells and whistles of the chronograph versions, but this does make it a more acceptable dress watch suitable for work occasions.

The casing of this Bulova Precisionist timepiece has a nice and sleek polished finish to it. It’s made from stainless steel and has a modest 41mm diameter along with a slim 11mm thickness. The strap has a two tone polished and brushed finish which I personally like the look of. This fastens with a push button deployment style clasp.

I rather like the simplified design of the dial on this Bulova Precision watch. It features a black background with silver coloured hands and baton style hour markers. There’s lume on the tips of the hands and hour markers for better visibility in dim lit conditions.

Like the previous models, this Bulova Precisionist watch makes use of a high quality 262 kHz precision movement for excellent accuracy.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to see to see that this watch uses a mineral crystal glass on front of the dial. This gives you protection from scratches and shattering. It doesn’t offer as high a level of scratch protection as sapphire glass would, but it is cheaper.

Like the previous model this timepiece also has a more modest 100m water resistance rating that I still think is acceptable for a dress watch.

10. Bulova Men’s Chronograph Precisionist Watch

Bulova precisionist chronograph timepiece 98B270Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

In at number 10 we have another high end Bulova Precisionist wrist watch that features this oversized chronograph design.

The stainless steel casing of this extra large watch has a diameter of 48mm with a thickness of 17mm. This makes it quite a chunky watch which is worth keeping in mind before you buy. The strap on this model is also made of stainless steel and fastens with a fold over style clasp.

Again, I’m a big fan of these textured dials with the carbon fibre finish making use of multi heights within the watch. The bold hour markers and hands have a coating of lume and are easily visible during the day and at night time. The date indicator at the 4:30 position on the watch is a common feature of the chronograph Bulova Precisionist watches.

A 262 kHz three prong quartz crystal movement has been used to give the watch its unparalleled accuracy. the full chronograph function of the watch can even measure to within 1/1000th of a second.

We’re back to sapphire crystal glass as this is a more expensive Bulova Precisionist watch. The sapphire crystal gives you excellent scratch protection but would lack the shatter resistance of a mineral crystal glass.

This model also has a 300m water resistance rating, again something I’m very happy to see, a common feature for the Bulova sports Precisionist watches.

11. Bulova UHF Watch Precisionist Chronograph Timepiece

Bulova Precisionist Quartz Chronograph watch 98B226Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon

This next men’s Bulova UHF Precisionist watch is built with a stainless steel casing that features a black ion-plated upper bezel. The casing has a diameter of 46mm with a thickness of 17mm, again it’s quite a chunky Bulova watch. I love this black genuine leather strap with the high contrasting white stitching for detail. The strap fastens with a buckle clasp.

The dial features a black background with contrasting light coloured hands and hour markers. I really like this addition of the blue detailings for the second’s hand as it gives the timepiece a nice pop of colour. This Bulova watch features chronograph timekeeping as well as a date indicator.

The Precisionist movement at the heart of this Bulova watch vibrates eight times higher than a standard quartz watch to give you excellent levels of accuracy and an impressive looking continuously sweeping second hand.

It’s worth noting that a mineral crystal glass has been used on this model. I’d have hoped for a sapphire crystal glass at this price, but it isn’t the be all and end all to be fair.

This watch does has a 300m water resistance rating so in some ways that makes up for the mineral crystal glass. This 300m water resistance rating makes the watch suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving.

12. Bulova Precisionist Champlain Watch

Bulova Precisionist Watch 98B142Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon

If you like men’s black watches then this next Bulova Precisionist watch could be right up your street. The casing is made from a black ion-plated stainless steel with a diameter of 47mm and a thickness of 15mm. The strap is made of a sturdy rubber and fastens with a buckle style clasp.

The dial has a pretty cool design to it with contrasting hands and hour markers along with blue accented detailing including the second hand which stands out nicely. Both the hands and hour markers have a coating of lume for better visibility in dim lit conditions. This black Bulova Precisionist watch also has a date function at the 3 o’clock position.

Powering this Bulova watch is the impressive Precisionist movement that beats 8 times higher than a standard quartz movement and has a frequency of 262 kHz. this also gives the watch that beautiful sweeping second hand motion.

Again we have another mineral crystal glass protecting the front of this Bulova Precisionist Champlain watch. This gives you a good level of scratch and shatter resistance which is often handy to have on a watch.

The 300m water resistance rating is, of course, great to see, as standard, this includes a screw down crown.

13. Bulova All Black Precisionist Chronograph Watch

Bulova precisionist chronograph watch 98G257Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon

Up next is another popular all black Bulova Precisionist watch with an oversized casing design. The casing is made of a black ion-plated stainless steel with a diameter of 48mm and a 14mm thickness. The strap continues with this black ion-plated finish and fastens with a push button deployment style clasp.

I think it’s right that we acknowledge that the dial might be hard to read straight away. As is common with all black watch design, the dial sometimes suffers when it comes to practicality, but that being said, these are often bought for the style and design rather than anything else.

The black carbon fibre finish to the dial is something I’ve always been a fan of. I think the main part that will be hard to read is the smaller writing located on the dial. Otherwise, the bold white tipped hands actually stand out quite well. Along with the white baton hour markers that as well as the hands feature a coating of lume for visibility at night. The red hands and detailing is something I also like the addition of to make the dial stand out a little.

This Bulova chronograph Precisionist watch makes use of a sapphire crystal glass to give you excellent protection from scratches and scuffs.

The watch also has a 300m water resistance rating which is brilliant to see.

14. Bulova Men’s Precisionist Chronograph Watch

Bulova precisionist chronograph timepiece 98G229Check out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

In at number 14 we have one of my favourite Bulova Precisionist watches. This model features a large 46mm black ion-plated stainless steel casing with an 18mm thickness making it quite a chunky timepiece. The strap is also made of stainless steel with this black ion plating and fastens with a fold over push deployment clasp.

One of my favourite aspects of this Bulova Precisionist watch is the blue detailing on the dial with the second hand standing out nicely against the black carbon fibre background. Both the hands and hour markers are coated in lume for extra visibility at night time. The dial also features 4 chronograph sub dials as well as a date indicator which is handy to have.

This timepiece is powered by a Bulova Precisionist chronograph movement for excellent levels of accuracy and a stopwatch that can measure to within 1/1000th of a second. This 262 kHz movement gives you a beautiful sweeping second hand that’s also been a favourite of mine.

A sapphire crystal glass is exactly what I expected to find on this expensive Bulova watch. This gives you some of the highest levels of scratch protection available on a watch.

The Bulova 98G229 also features an impressive 300m water resistance rating which is common for most the Precisionist sports timepieces.

You can read my full 98G229 Bulova Precisionist review here soon.

15. Bulova Chronograph Precisionist Watch

Bulova chronograph Precisionist watchCheck out the latest reviews, ratings, and prices on Amazon or Watch Shop

Last up on today’s list of the best Bulova Precisionist watches is this two tone chronograph model. This watch is built with a large 48mm stainless steel casing that has a thickness of 14mm. It has a two tone finish to the strap and fastens with a push button deployment clasp.

The dial on this Bulova Precisionist watch has a black carbon fibre background with rose gold coloured detailings for the hands and hour markers. These are coated with lume for visibility in dim lit conditions. Four chronograph sub dials are on display as well as a date indicator between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour markers.

The impressive Precisionist movement at the heart of this watch is extremely accurate. It can even measure to within 1/1000th of a second with a chronograph function. The 262 kHz movement also gives the second hand a sweeping motion which I nicer to look at.

The use of a sapphire crystal glass was exactly what I had expected to see from this high end Bulova Precision watch. The sapphire crystal glass gives you excellent resistance from scratches and scuffs.

You’ll also be pleased to hear that this Bulova Precisionist watch has a 300m water resistance rating that’s more than enough for most people. If you need something with ISO certification I’d recommend taking a look at some of the timepieces in my 33 best diving watches list.

You can read more about this timepiece in my 98G256 Bulova Precisionist review that will be available soon.
