Seiko SARB029 Technical specifications

I wanted to get things started with a quick skim through some of the technical specifications for the Seiko SARB029. This simply gives you a chance to have a quick look through to instantly see if this is the type of watch you’re going to like or not. For example, some people wouldn’t want to go for a very large, or smaller watch.

Seiko SARB029 Dial and Casing Design

The Seiko SARB029 is a beautifully designed men’s dress watch. It features a stunning black background that’s complemented by the silver coloured baton style hour markers and hands. There’s also a small date indicator located at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. On the dial, you can also find the terms ‘Seiko’, ’23 Jewels’ and ‘automatic’.

The casing of this Seiko watch is made from stainless steel and has a diameter of 36mm with a thickness of 12mm. By today’s standards that’s a slightly smaller casing, most watches are around the 38-40mm sizing.

Strap & Clasp

The strap of this Seiko SARB029 is made of stainless steel and fastens with a fold over style clasp. It has a width of 19mm and is in keeping with the casing design. The strap can be replaced if you wish to do so. The size of the gap between the lugs is 19mm. Purchase a watch repair kit for all the tools required for this job.

The Seiko SARB029 Movement

At the heart of this Seiko watch is a 6R15 caliber automatic movement. This is a 23 jewel movement that beats at 21,600 BPH to give the watch a smooth 6 ticks per second. This is a much smoother movement than a traditional quartz which ticks once per second.

When fully wound the movement should run for up to 50 hours and will continue to self wind from the movement of your wrist. The movement can be manually wound and hacked, hacking is where the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out.

Seiko SARB029 Crystal

Protecting the front of this timepiece is a Seiko Hardlex crystal glass. This is a proprietary glass used by Seiko in many of their watches. Seiko’s Hardlex glass is a specially toughened mineral crystal glass that offers a high level of resistance to knocks and scratches. You’ll commonly find this is many Seiko, Pulsar, and Lorus watches.

Seiko SARB029 Pros:

  • Value for money
  • Reliable automatic movement
  • Smooth 6 ticks per second

  • Hardlex glass
  • Date display

A Final Word On The Seiko SARB029

In today’s review, we took a detailed look at the quality of the Seiko SARB029. I love the simply elegant design of this timepiece, making it perfect for formal or casual occasions. I’d personally normally go for larger watches as the 36mm is a little too small for me, but that’s just my preference.

The 6R15 movement is a big plus for me, a 50 hour power reserve and a smooth second movement with the 21,600 BPH is ideal. Overall, I’m very pleased with the quality of this Seiko SARB029 watch.

Having taken a look at the quality, specifications, and pricing of this watch, I’ve decided to give it a 8.5/10.
